 Executive Desk:
Effective Leaders are Effective Managers, Too
Why is it that no one aspires to be a good manager these days? While good leaders are essential for galvanizing people and moving organizations forward, managers are not any less important. Managers have to get things done through others. The manager is supposed to plan, organize, coordinate, and control.

GENERAL SESSION HIGHLIGHTS
Compassion Fatigue: Preparing Professionals to be Resilient |
| Barbara Rubel, MA, BCETS, CBS |
This past June, Barbara Rubel, MA, BCETS, CBS had the honor of presenting the General
Session at the 2007 NADONA/LTC National Conference in Las Vegas. The purpose of the session was to describe compassion fatigue and
prepare nurses to be resilient. The objectives were to have the participants compare burnout
and compassion fatigue, learn positive coping strategies to prevent compassion fatigue, and
identify ways to develop resiliency. The hope was that by the end of the program, those in
attendance would build skills necessary to ensure balance and self-care as they provide compassionate care.
